Speed as Strategy: Aurochemicals Scales Up for a Volatile F&F Market

As regulatory scrutiny tightens and supply chains remain volatile, Aurochemicals is betting big on speed, scale and safety.

The manufacturer of natural aroma ingredients is marking its 30th anniversary with a 5,000-square-foot warehouse expansion in New York’s Hudson Valley—a move designed to enable rare same- or next-day shipping, deepen on-site inventory and buffer customers from tariff shocks.

Notably, Aurochemicals has grown from a handful of products to more than 600 today, with 300 additional aroma ingredients in development.

“In today’s world, everyone wants their products yesterday,” says CEO Deo Persaud. “Customers also don’t want to keep too much inventory and do not want to pay more in interest rates or expensive overseas air freight for rush orders. Our comprehensive on-site inventory gives us same-day shipping capabilities, and we also offer our own financing. These are important benefits for our customers … ”

Persaud, who founded the company in Brooklyn in 1994, calls the recent investment a natural extension of Aurochemicals’ core playbook: quality, responsiveness and operational discipline.

“Our facility’s size, scope, capabilities, equipment and internal systems provide a strong foundation for Aurochemicals to efficiently manage our inventory and entire operation,” says Persaud. “This results in Aurochemicals customers having greater assurance about product quality, that we’ll fulfill orders accurately and quickly, and delivery will be on time. Outsourcing requires sharing proprietary information, which, out of respect for our customers, we do not do.”

Inventory as Strategy

The expanded facility—building on a 2019 warehouse addition—increases raw material purchasing power and stock depth. In a market defined by geopolitical tension and agricultural variability, inventory is more than a logistics function; it’s a competitive differentiator.

By capitalizing product and buying in larger volumes, Aurochemicals says it can create savings for customers while mitigating tariff exposure and supply disruptions.

“When tariffs change, customers cannot always absorb price increases,” says Persaud. “By having materials and substantial inventory on hand at our facility, as well as timely, efficient operations to fulfill orders, Aurochemicals can provide optimum pricing that cushions at least some of the potential impact of tariff costs.”

For flavor and fragrance manufacturers navigating long lead times and regulatory uncertainty, the promise is simple: availability without compromise on quality.

SQF Performance: 99% and Holding

On the compliance front, Aurochemicals continues to post elite scores from the Safe Quality Food Institute. The company recently achieved a 99% Safe Quality Food (SQF) rating—following a 100% score in 2023 and seven consecutive years at 99% SQF E-Excellent prior. The 2024 audit also closed at 99%.

“A strong SQF score provides greater confidence in Aurochemicals products, quality and assurance for our customers–as well as our customers’ customers,” says Persaud. “They know that Aurochemicals meets or exceeds their quality expectations. I walk our floors like an inspector to ensure quality and safety, and we’ve built in, and consistently review, systems that ensure quality. In addition, we continually innovate to implement advanced solutions, improved systems and new procedures to consistently ensure quality.”

The executive adds, “Aurochemicals maintains and advances quality by constantly reviewing and managing a slew of variables. For example, we ensure we use the right package size and type to minimize product degradation. The correct size allows us to reduce air space in packages; that prevents products from breaking down. We also have expanded our laboratory equipment to do multiple analyses at the same time. Our customers have high expectations, so we have additional equipment, and backup equipment, to ensure quality. We also look for efficiencies in packaging that not only serves our customers’ immediate needs, but also sets us up to serve other customers’ needs by having pre-packaged products ready to go.”

30 Years, By the Numbers

  • Sales Growth: From $5,000 in 1994 to $50 million in Year 30.
  • Portfolio Expansion: From a handful of products to 602 SKUs, with 300 more in development.
  • Vanillin Leadership: Since 2020, Aurochemicals reports it has been the world’s No. 1 vanillin producer and dealer.
  • Regulatory Library: 30,000 searchable documents available online to streamline compliance workflows.

The company’s Washingtonville campus—established after relocating in 2000—was custom built for long-term scalability. The latest expansion reinforces that strategy.

Operational Efficiencies with Safety at the Core

Behind the scenes, Persaud maintains a hands-on leadership style, working alongside warehouse and production teams. Recent upgrades include:

  • Reorganized warehouse flows and new refrigeration systems
  • Custom stainless steel mixers
  • Enhanced packaging protocols
  • Explosion-proof equipment
  • Updated safety guides and cleaning systems
  • Improved order tracking through a new log system

The goal: reduce friction, increase throughput and protect both people and product.

“Overall, we’re proud of Aurochemicals’ growth and our role in the local and global economy,” Persaud says. “We’re continually strategizing the future, prioritizing innovation and ensuring customer satisfaction is superb each and every day.”
