Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties’ “A Legacy in Bloom” Gala
Celebrates Community and Compassionate Care with Dignity
Garnet Health and Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Honored for Commitment to Patient-Centered Care
MIDDLETOWN, N.Y., April 22, 2026 – Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties’ annual A Legacy in Bloom Gala on April 18 at West Hills Country Club, brought together community leaders, healthcare partners, supporters and advocates to celebrate compassion, connection and the vital role of dignified hospice care in the region.
As the organization’s largest annual fundraiser, the gala supports Hospice’s mission to provide high-touch, compassionate care that ensures comfort and peace for patients and families throughout Orange and Sullivan Counties and at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh. The event also recognizes community partners Garnet Health and Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall for their commitment to patient-centered care.
Held on a beautiful spring evening, the gala welcomed approximately 225 attendees and featured a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere with dining, live music, a silent auction and raffles, as well as dancing. Proceeds from the event support Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties’ services, programs and resources, ensuring that patients and families continue to receive compassionate, individualized care when they need it most, building on almost four decades of service to the community and recently recognized with a five-star designation from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for quality of care.

“Hospice is not just a service. It is people showing up for others in the moments that matter most,” said Eric Gatsik, President and CEO of Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties. “Our teams meet patients and families where they are, ensuring that no one faces life’s most difficult moments alone. That is the legacy we continue to build together.”
Gatsik also emphasized the importance of strong healthcare partnerships, noting that collaboration with organizations like Garnet Health and Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall helps ensure patients receive the right care at the right time and in the right place.
Lynn Crevling, Director of Advancement at Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, highlighted the impact of community support and the role it plays in delivering care to patients and families.
“Your generosity ensures that no one walks their final journey alone,” said Crevling. “It allows families to find comfort, peace and support when they need it most, and makes it possible for us to continue providing compassionate care throughout our community.”
A highlight of the evening was the recognition of two outstanding community partners, Garnet Health and Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall, whose collaboration helps ensure patients receive seamless, patient-centered care.
President and CEO Jonathan Schiller emphasized the shared values that define the partnership and the role Hospice plays in patient care.
“The work of hospice caregivers is truly a calling, and our community is fortunate to have them,” said Schiller.
Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital was also honored for its collaboration and commitment to care. Accepting the award on behalf of MSLC, President and CEO Daniel Maughan reflected on both professional and personal experiences with Hospice and the importance of that partnership in supporting families.
“This work is truly about community caring for community,” said Maughan. “Hospice provides not only care, but reassurance and support when families need it most.”
Board of Directors Chairman Charles Milich underscored the responsibility of sustaining Hospice’s mission and the importance of community trust in ensuring the delivery of compassionate care, comfort and essential services to patients and families.
“Our role is to ensure Hospice remains strong, compassionate and able to serve every family who needs us,” said Milich. “It is an honor to support work that brings comfort and dignity to so many in our community.”
Kathleen Cole, gala chair and member of the Board of Directors, highlighted the collective effort behind the evening and the spirit that brought it to life.
“When we began planning this gala, we wanted to create an evening where people could connect and truly feel something meaningful,” said Cole. “Tonight is a reflection of that vision and of the generosity that makes Hospice’s work possible.”
