Edgemont Junior Senior High School Unveils Upgraded Fitness Center

SCARSDALE, N.Y. (Nov. 25, 2025) – The Edgemont School District has unveiled an upgraded, fully equipped Fitness Center at Edgemont Junior Senior High School, outfitted to meet a wide range of fitness goals and featuring more than two dozen exercise machines, benches and other devices, as well as a range of weights.

The enhanced 2,100-square-foot area provides training opportunities and exercise space for the district’s athletic teams and physical education classes. All students are invited to use the center from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on school days.

The $150,000 project took 3.5 months for district facilities crews and outside contractors to complete. It was partially funded with a contribution from the E Club, the district’s athletics booster club.

“This Fitness Center upgrade is another example of Edgemont’s ongoing commitment to addressing the whole child and fostering every student’s growth, physically, academically and socially,” Superintendent Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton said at the unveiling in the high school’s gymnasium. “Edgemont is fortunate to have organizations that are so willing to partner with us as we invest in the future for all Edgemont students. In this space, we know our students will develop and grow as they strive toward their goals and reinforce their understanding that hard work pays off. And hopefully they’ll have fun along the way.”

The new fitness center advances Dr. Hamilton’s goal of enhancing district athletics and strengthening the connections among students’ physical health, academic excellence and social-emotional well-being.

“We are extremely excited to provide an updated facility that maximizes our fitness space and offers a variety of strength and cardio options,” said district Athletic Director Anthony DeRosa. “We are grateful to the Board of Education and the district administration for providing the funds for this project and to the E Club for its generous donation to complete the renovation, as well as their unwavering support for our students and programs.”

The space includes:

  • Four treadmills.
  • An elliptical machine.
  • Two upright bikes.
  • Two Stairmasters.
  • Universal shoulder, chest and leg press machines.
  • Universal standing/prone leg curl machine.
  • Two stand-alone hilo pulley systems.
  • A four-station machine (single lat station, single low row, tricep and hilo).
  • Four half-rack systems.
  • A Smith weight-training machine.
  • Five flat/incline benches.
  • A three-tier horizontal dumbbell rack (15 pairs).
  • A barbell rack (10 pairs).
  • A preacher curl bench.
  • A club stretch cage.
  • Kettlebells (set of 20).
  • Two three-in-one plyometric boxes.

The center was spruced up with new mirrors, flooring emblazoned with the Edgemont “E” logo, fresh paint, updated ceiling and lighting, and diamond plate trim to create a motivating atmosphere in a bright, inviting space.
